Rocky Checketts June 29, 1983 ~ May 17, 2018 An accident claimed the life of a truly great man in the backcountry of Moab during an epic adventure amongst best friends. Rocky was born in Ogden, Utah to Maria Moore and Rob Checketts. He attended Wahlquist Jr. High and Fremont High School.

Rocky was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in the Tucson Arizona Mission. Rocky wed the love of his life Courtney Baur on September 10, 2010, and they were sealed in the Laie Hawaii Temple. Three beautiful girls joined their forever family: Indie, Codie, and Haven.

Rocky was an entrepreneur and loved starting and building businesses including RC Designs, Rocket Steel, Charlie’s Landscaping, and Contractor School. He loved the outdoors, photography, droning, golfing, sports, fantasy football, his RZR, the Jazz, the Cowboys, live music, good food, the great state of Utah, his home town of Plain City, and most of all, his family and friends. Rocky was relentless in his quest for greatness and had an insatiable desire to learn and grow.

He pushed himself and everyone around him to improve. He had the ability to be brutally honest with people yet love them unconditionally. His confidence and zest for life were unmatched.

He lived a life of no regrets and left a lasting impression on all he met. Rocky loved his wife and daughters and among all the amazing things he did in life, they were his greatest accomplishment. Rocky was preceded in death by his daughter Haven, brother-in-law Bridger Baur, and his uncle Rick Checketts.

Rocky is survived by his wife and daughters, Courtney, Indie, and Codie; his parents Maria Moore, Rob and Jan Checketts; his brothers, Denny “Diz”, Jake (Bre), Marcus, Beaun, and Jairus; in-laws, Tom and Wendy Baur; and many friends whom he considered family. The family would like to thank the Classic Lifeguard Helicopter, Grand County Search and Rescue, Grand County Sheriff’s Office, and Grand County EMS. They are especially grateful for the valiant efforts of his friends Jake Butler, Shane Hadley, and Jon Harper in the last moments of his earthly life.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at 11 a.m. at the Farr West Stake Center, 2132 West 2700 North. Friends may visit with family on Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment, Plain City Cemetery.

Rocky wouldn’t want anyone sending flowers, so honor him by gathering those closest to you and getting out into nature and doing something epic. You can also help keep his legacy alive by sharing your favorite memory of Rocky when you see Courtney and their girls.
