Appalachia, VA Ronald Wayne Bates 57, he was born Aug. 21 1961, he went to be with the lord on March 22,2019 at his residence in Appalachia, Virginia. He was preceded in death by his son Kenneth Diets, his mother Garnelle Sturgill, brother Roger Bates.

He is survived his wife of 37 years; Peggy Bates of Appalachia, daughters; April Diets of TN, Melinda Crabtree of Fluvanna VA, Heather Jordan of TN, Sons Chris Bates of TN, Scotty Mullins of Big Stone, sisters; Kathy Henry and Stefanie Fox both of KS, Pam Mays of Ky, brothers; Lewis Bates of Pound, John Bates of Appalachia, David Bates of KY, his father Beck Bates of KY, seven grandchildren, and three great grandchildren, special friends; Gabe Barnett, Jackie Burns Jr. Farmer, Paul Jones, Mathew Carroll. It was Ronald’s request to have two visitations so to honor his wishes we will have the first visitation on Sunday evening (March 24, 2019) from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Holding Funeral Home in Big Stone Gap, VA The second viewing will be held on Monday evening from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. the funeral service will be conducted following in the funeral home’s chapel with Pastor’s Gary & Steve Swinney officiating. The committal service will be held on Tuesday (March 26, 2019) at 11 a.m. in American Legion Cemetery; those wishing to attend are asked to meet at Holding Funeral Home to go in procession to the cemetery.
