Ronald E. Christian, 89, Wausau, died Thursday April 12, 2018 at Benedictine Living Community under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services. He was born October 30, 1928, in Wausau, son of the late Edwin and Anna (Fara) Christian. On April 14, 1956, he married Barbara Resch at St. Mary Catholic Church, Wausau.

She survives. Ron proudly served his country in the US Air Force during the Korean War. On September 11, 2017, he was honored to accompany his fellow veteran comrades on the Honor Flight to Washington DC.

He was a member of the American Legion, Montgomery Plant Dudley Post No. 10, Wausau. He began his dedicated working career with the Marathon Corporation and retired from Georgia Pacific in 1987 as Cost Estimator.

Among his favorite pastimes were softball and golf, however, his true enjoyment came from the pleasure of mentoring others, especially his children in sports of all kinds. Survivors include his wife, Barbara, three children, Greg (Samara) Christian, Sturgeon Bay, Geri (Doug) Torvund, Richfield, Minn. , Sue (Mark) Stoltz, Rib Mountain; three grandchildren, Chad Torvund, Lynsey (Tyler) Nikula and Andrey Torvund; two great grandchildren, Logan and Carter Nikula; one nephew, Thomas Sandquist.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two children, Mary and Michael Christian and a sister and brother-in-law, Enid and Earl Sandquist. Private Family Services will be held at a later date. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau, where full military honors will be conducted by members of the American Legion.
