Russell Cleveland Rodgers, 86, of Bagdad, KY, died Friday at his residence. Services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday at LeCompte Johnson Taylor Funeral Home with burial to follow at Beechridge Cemetery near Bagdad. Visitation will be 12:00 p.m. Monday until service time.
Russell was born to the late William Francis and Frances Jane Rodgers, April. 28, 1932, in Bagdad, KY. Russell was a hard-working, dedicated and loving husband, father and grandfather.
He served his country in the U.S. Army in the early 1950’s where he served a tour in Germany. He was married to Patricia Rodgers, his second wife for forty-two years and they raised a family in Frankfort, KY. Russell was an electrician for more than 38 years and retired from Art’s Electric in Frankfort after 20 years.
He also worked at Central Screw, Cunningham Electric and at Frankfort Plant Board for 14 years. Along with country living, he enjoyed golf, fishing, hunting, wood working and cars. Russell was a genuine “fixit man”.
He was a true man of his times. Russell had been a member of the First Baptist Church in Frankfort. He served as an Assistant Scout Master with the Boy Scouts of America Troop 31 for many years at the First Baptist Church.
He is survived by his three children, Debra Parrish Amburgy, Frankfort, Mike Rodgers, Shelby Co., and Tim (Verna) Rodgers, Versailles. His first child Donna Edwards preceded him in death in December of 2004. His surviving siblings are Virginia Rose, Lonnie Rodgers, Betty McGaughey and Mary Ann Walker.
Also surviving him are four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. His family and friends will miss Russell. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society by Internet, donate.
