Ruth Fike Friend Lyons , June 26, 1930 — October 02, 2018

Ruth Fike Lyons, 88, of Lockport, NY, passed away on Tuesday, October 2, 2018, at Niagara Hospice, Lockport. Born June 26, 1930, in Turner Douglas, WV, she was the daughter of the late George M. and Mabel (Duel) Friend. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Darwin O. Fike; her second husband, Robert Lyons of Kitzmiller; two sisters, Tillie Bowser and Vera Thorn; three brothers, Otis Friend, Glenwood “Bud” Friend and Donald Friend.

Ruth is survived by three daughters, Sharon Larimore and husband, Larry, Harrington, DE; Becky Christiana and husband, Roger, Bedford, PA; Debbie Buhr and husband, Tim, Lockport, NY; five grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; two sisters, Francis Gnegy, Oakland, MD; Ann Tolliver, Herndon, WV; one brother, Jim Friend, Falls Church, WV. Ruth graduated from Oakland High School in 1948. She resided in Crellin, MD, most of her life until she moved to Grantsville, MD, where she resided until 2009 when she moved to Lockport to be with her daughter and family.

After graduation, Ruth worked at the HP Clothing store and later at the Oakland High School as a bookkeeper and secretary. She worked alongside her husband, Darwin, for many years as they ran a small dairy supply business, Surge Sales & Service. Ruth was secretary/treasurer of the Crellin Methodist Church for many years.

She also directed several children’s ministries. She and her family later became members of Deep Creek Baptist church where she taught the Junior Sunday School class and sang in the choir. Ruth co-founded the South Westerners 4-H club in Crellin where she shared her passion for knitting and crocheting with many little girls in the area.

Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 1100 Memorial Dr., Oakland, on Saturday, October 20, 2018 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Services will follow at 1:00 p.m. Interment will be in Garrett County Memorial Gardens, Oakland.
