Ruth M. Hughes, 82 of Annadale passed away on Tuesday, May 21, 2019, at Addeo Residence in Staten Island. Born Monday, July 6, 1936 in Brooklyn, New York, she was the daughter of the late Ruth (O’Connor) Bergen, and her step father Patrick Ward. Ruth a home maker, lived for her husband, children, and grandchildren.

In her free time Ruth was an avid bowler for over 30 years with the Holy Child Bowling League. Ruth volunteered her time with the Board of Elections and well as the Our Lady Star of the Sea Library. As a young girl Ruth was an avid swimmer and enjoyed Horseback riding in Prospect Park, Brooklyn.

Ruth along with her husband William, were President and members of the Statten Square Set. , but more than anything she relished spending time with family and friends down at the Jersey Shore. She was the beloved wife of the late William F. Hughes Sr. (1989).

Loving mother of Doreen Overstrom, Susan Mutz, William F. Hughes Jr., Deborah Monforte, and Timothy Hughes. Dear mother in law of Greg Overstrom, Glenn Mutz, Laura Hughes, Philip Monforte, and Elizabeth Hughes. Adored sister of Robert Bergen and Carol Ann Houlihan and the late Richard Bergen (2002).

Cherished grandmother of Paul, Patrick, Matthew, Erin, Chelsea, Deborah, Liam, Stephanie, Sara, Christopher, Kristen, Joseph, and Thomas. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00 AM on Friday at Our Lady Star of The Sea located at 5411 Amboy Road Staten Island, New York 10312. Interment will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Staten Island, NY.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Thursday, May 23, 2019, at John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals, Inc., 28 Eltingville Blvd, Staten Island, New York. In Lieu of Flowers, donations in memory of Ruth may be made to the Alzheimer�s Association or to the Breast Cancer Foundation To send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of Ruth M.
