Ruth I. McEntee Kearney Resident Ruth I. McEntee, 96, of Kearney passed away on Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at Kearney Regional Medical Center. A celebration of life will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Sunday, January 6, 2019 at O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home in Kearney. Inurnment will be held at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colorado at a later date.

Services are entrusted to O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral and Cremation Services. Ruth Irene McEntee was born on October 29, 1922 in Litchfield, Nebraska to Lumen O. and Lydia J. (Bauer) Wing. She received her education from Pleasanton High School, graduating with the class of 1938.

On November 26, 1946, Ruth was united in marriage to Bernard Eugene McEntee at St. James Rectory in Kearney, NE and to this union three children were born: Jacqueline, Jerry and Janet. The family lived in Colorado and Florida for many years. Ruth worked as a dental receptionist at several different dental offices during her time in Colorado and Florida.

Bernard preceded Ruth in death in 1961. In 1990, Ruth moved back to Grand Island and then to Kearney in her later years. Ruth was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Jacqueline Hume and her husband, Evan of Tallahassee, Florida, Jerry McEntee of Omaha and Janet Alterman of Estero, Florida; grandchildren, Brooke McEntee, Evan Bradley Hume, Ryan McEntee and Abbie Alterman; great-granddaughter, Emilia Hume; sister, June Burchell of Florida; brother, Larry Wing of Texas; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
