Ruth Marie Colton-Michaels, 67, of Murphysboro, passed away at 5:07 p.m. on Sunday, August 26, 2018, in Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. Ruth was born April 14, 1951, in Miami, AZ, a daughter to the late Ernesto Tercero and Maria Isabel (Guiterrez) Tercero Vega. Ruth was a U.S. Army veteran and was a retired jailer with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department and a member of American Legion Post 27 in Apache Junction, AZ.

Ruth and Paul enjoyed spending winters in Mesa, AZ. She was united in marriage to Paul D. Michaels in Laughlin, NV, on April 5, 2013. Paul survives of Murphysboro.

Cremation has been accorded. A memorial gathering will be at Crawshaw Funeral Home in Murphysboro from 10:30 to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 1, 2018, with a memorial service in celebration of Ruth’s life at 11 a.m. on Saturday. Pastor Chester Wisely will officiate.

The memorial service will conclude with military rites at the funeral home by Murphysboro American Legion Paul Stout Post 127. Memorials are the preferred form of remembrance and may be made to the American Legion Paul Stout Post 127 Military Rites Detail or to the donor’s choice. Survivors include her husband, Paul D. Michaels of Murphysboro; one daughter and son-in-law, Leslie and Darren Marshall of Temecula, CA; two sons, Daniel Sherman and Thomas Sherman, both of Murphysboro; one step-daughter, Carrie Bartolini, one sister, Ida Ann Pedrego; three brothers, Juan Antonio Tercero, Ernesto Tercero, and James Tercero; and two grandchildren, Malina Gabiola and Jordan Gabiola, and three step-grandchildren.
