Sally Marie Christola (Goldwire) Stewart, 74, of York, PA entered into eternal rest on Sunday, March 4, 2018 at York Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of Rev. Dr. James C. Stewart, Jr. for 51 years and 8 months.

Sally was born on January 18, 1944, in Clyo, GA to Thelma Roper Goldwire and the late Rubin Goldwire, Sr. Sally was a graduate of Springfield Central High School in Springfield, GA, Class of 1963. She was a Sunday School teacher and a member of the Usher Board. She served faithfully for many years until she moved to York. Throughout her life she served in the church as a choir member, Communion Steward, and Missionary.

During Rev. Stewart’s pastoralship, she served faithfully as First Lady at Bethel AME Church in Marietta, PA, St. Paul AME Church in Oberlin, PA, Greencastle AME Church in Greencastle, PA to name a few. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Sally was employed at Johnson Controls, Inc. for over 20 years. Prior to retirement she worked as a wireman, assemblyman, and in the environmental service department. Sally was preceded in death by her father, Rubin Goldwire, Sr. and her brother, Moses Goldwire.

In addition to her loving husband and her mother, Mrs. Thelma Goldwire, Clyo, GA, Sally leaves to cherish her memory five daughters: Ramona (Daniel) Chatman of Las Vegas, NV, Rachel (Kyle) Johnson of Waldorf, MD, Vonda Porche of Houston, TX, Sepia Nikki (Todd) Suchanic of York, PA, and Felicia (Jeremy) Fitze of Mount Wolf, PA; five brothers: Rubin B. (Gracie) Goldwire, Jr. of Savannah GA, Rev. John (Eva) Goldwire, Sr. of Clyo, GA, Dr. Franklin (Dr. Cheryl) Goldwire of Guyton, GA, Joe Nathan (Wanda) Goldwire of Spartanburg, SC, and Kelvin Goldwire of Clyo, GA; three sisters: Ruth Goldwire of Clyo, GA, Floresa (Vernon Bailey) Grimes of Athens, GA, and Dorothy (Carl) Davis of Savannah, GA; two sister-in-laws: Dr. Nancy Stewart-Raynor of Windsor Mill, MD and Gwendolyn Goldwire of Guyton, GA; 14 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family and friends.
