Samuel Henry Burnett 9/19/1940 – 7/5/2018 Samuel Henry Burnett, 77, of Roy, Utah, passed from this life on July 5, 2018 at his home surrounded by his family. Sam was born on September 19, 1940 in Oden, Utah, the eldest child of Gordon M. Burnett and Rose Rufrano Burnett. He married Irene Linford June 8, 1960.

They had six children and later divorced. He married Diane Gentry Oct 7, 1983. His legacy lives on through his six children–Connie & Nathan Porter; Dianne; Mike & Kamee; Greg & Brenda; Susie & Jason Harris; Brad & Cheyenne; three step-children– Casey Gurule, Dan Gentry, & Krista Barone.

His 48 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren love him. A void will be felt in the lives of his siblings Nancy & Jim Minster and Roger & LeAnn Burnett. Sam was preceded in death by his parents, Gordon & Rose Burnett; mother-in law, Helen Martin; step-children Robbie Gentry and Jamie Lyn Gentry; granddaughter MyKal Anne Burnett.

Sam started his career as a chemist at the Tooele Army Depot, spent 30+ years as a project manager for Buehner Block, and retired for a second time after being a career coach with Deseret Industries. Sam’s favorite hobbies were fishing, camping, reading, gardening and creating. The longer you knew Sam, the more likely you were to have experienced the benefit of his creative problem solving.

We’re fairly certain he was the inspiration for the television series MacGyver—he could fix anything or figure out a unique solution to most challenges. “Always do your best”, were words he lived by and shared again with his wife and children as he courageously made the decision to come home from the University of Utah Hospital under the watchful eye of Rocky Mountain Hospice. The family would like to thank them for their generous support and loving care of Sam as he transitioned into the next life.

He counseled the visiting chaplain, “…dying, it’s nothing to be afraid of, it’s part of life, right? ”. To honor Sam, there will be a gathering for family and friends on Monday, July 9 from 6-8 pm at the LDS Meadow Creek Ward, 3649 West 4800 South, Roy, Utah.

Funeral services will be held at the same location, Tuesday July 10. Friends may call from 10:00-10:45 a.m. with services starting promptly at 11:00 a.m. Interment, Evergreen Cemetery, Ogden, Utah.
