Barbara Ann Jones Durler, passed away peacefully with her family around her on June 30, 2018 at her home in Layton, Utah. She was born on December 28, 1932 in Detroit, Michigan. Her parents were Lark Nall Jones and Estella Payne Stroup Jones.

Barbara was an accomplished student and also Valedictorian at Denby High in Detroit, MI in 1951. Barbara Jones married Russell Wallace Durler, Jr. on February 6, 1954 in Detroit, MI. Her beloved husband, Russell preceded her in death on May 14, 2014.

They were married for 60 years. Barbara graduated from Alma College in 1956. She taught school while Russell attended Pittsburgh Theological Seminary (where he received his Divinity degree, and later San Francisco Theological Seminary).

Barbara often told her children she had always wanted to be a minister’s wife. Barbara was a devoted mother to her four children and dedicated her life to them. She continued teaching while the family lived in Spokane, WA and Mesa, AZ.

She finished her teaching career at Hill Field Elementary in Clearfield, Utah. She received the Teacher of the Year Award for Davis County School District. She loved teaching and stayed in contact with many of her students.

Barbara is survived by her brother, William Jones, of Brawley, CA; brother, Neil Jones of Okemos, MI; son, Russell W. Durler III, of Mesa, AZ; daughter, Laura Lamb of Queen Creek, AZ; son and daughter-in-law, William and Lynda Durler of Layton, Utah; and daughter, Mary Drake of Albuquerque, NM. Barbara is also survived by ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren. A special thanks to Lynda for her four years of devoted caregiving to Barbara.

We will miss our dear Mother, but we are comforted knowing she is reunited with her beloved husband and our father, Russell. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, July 5, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Myers Mortuary, 250 North Fairfield Road, Layton, Utah. Family and friends may gather prior to services from 10-10:40 a.m. Interment will be at Layton Memorial Park, 1867 N Fairfield Rd, Layton, Utah.
