Obituary for Sandra Lynn “Sandy” Bender (Allen) It is with deep sorrow we report that Sandra “Sandy” Lynn Bender (Allen), 57, of Lewistown has gone to be with her Lord and Savior on April 28th, 2018 due to genetic liver disease. Born June 3rd, 1960, Sandy was the daughter of the late William and Agnes Allen. Sandy was family oriented, having been married to her lovely husband Donald “Donnie” Bender, Jr. for nearly forty years.

Sandy raised three children, Jonathan Bender of Lewistown, DJ Bender and wife, Shannon, of Reedsville and Katie Bender of Lewistown. Sandy greatly adored her granddaughter, Aislinn Brower, of Reedsville. Sandy was dearly loved by sisters Cindy Workman of Lewistown, Colleen Knepper of Yeagertown, Melissa Wintersteen of Pittsburgh and by brother Bill Allen of Lewistown.

Sandy was preceded in death by sister Kathy Allen Price (2012) of Lewistown. Sandy will also be remembered by her step-siblings, Denise, Jeff, Jason and Jay all from Harrisburg. Sandy also had several nieces and nephews, all of whom were dear to her.

We also want to acknowledge Mary Allen who served as Sandy’s caregiver for several years and became a close family friend. Additionally, we would like to recognize Wendy Barton, Sandy’s best friend who was there for Sandy and her family until the very end. Sandy was a kind, giving soul who dedicated her life to serving others, whether it be raising and supporting her family or the service she provided to individuals who faced disabilities through her work with Gentiva as well as through her other endeavors as a nurse-aid through the years.

Although Sandy has certainly passed too soon, the love and laughter she brought to others will surely live on. If you would like to pay tribute to Sandy’s beautiful life, a viewing will be held at Barr Funeral Home Inc. and Crematory, 120 Logan Street, Lewistown on Monday April 30, 2018 from 6-8:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held at Maitland Church of the Brethren, 315 Crossover Drive, Lewistown, at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday May 1, 2018 with Pastor Jeannine Leister officiating.
