Obituary for Sara Jane (Smith) Britt FORTVILLE – Sara Jane (Smith) Britt, age 65, of Fortville, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, July 14, 2018 at her home surrounded by family and friends after a yearlong battle with cancer. She was born on April 16, 1953 in Indianapolis as the daughter of David Ralph and Lelah (Hiday) Smith. Sara attended Hancock Central High School until the consolidation with Greenfield Central High School where she graduated from in 1971.

She obtained her bachelors in education from Indiana University in 1975. She also attended Regent University where she met her husband, Martin Britt. Sara and Marty were married on January 1, 1988 in Culpeper, VA.

In the 1990’s and early 2000’s Sara worked as a substitute teacher for the Greenfield School district and also at Lamb’s Bookstore. For the past 6 years during the fall, Sara worked at Tuttle’s Orchard. In the early 2000’s, Sara and Marty were foster parents to many children.

She enjoyed reading fiction, working outside doing farm work and working around the home. She loved her cats and would take care of any stray animal that showed up at her house. Sara was known to make herself available to help anyone and volunteered at Good Shepherd Community in Greenfield.

Sara is survived by her husband, Marty P. Britt; son, Murat “Marshall” Talayman; brother, David Smith; sister, Katie Reilly and Carol Nigh; and many nieces, nephews, great-nephews, and great-nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, D.R. and Lelah Smith. Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 21, 2018, from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at Trinity Park United Methodist Church, 207 W. Park Ave, Greenfield, IN 46140.

A funeral service will take place immediately following the visitation at 12:00 p.m. Pastor Larry Van Camp will be officiating. Burial will follow at Park Cemetery in Greenfield. Memorial contributions may be made by mail to Trinity Park United Methodist Church or envelopes will be available at the church.
