Shaila Ann Morris April 06, 1945 – December 21, 2018 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook| Send Sympathy Card Funeral services for Shaila Morris, 73, of Lufkin, will be held Wednesday, December 26, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. at Denman Avenue Baptist Church with Brother Charles M. Roberts officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park. Ms. Morris was born April 6, 1945 in Inglewood, California, the daughter of the late Johny Leta (Hawthorne) and Benjamin Thomas Smith.

She died Friday, December 21, 2018 in Lufkin. Ms. Morris had lived in Lufkin since 1965 and was a former resident of Groves, Texas. She was a 1963 graduate of Port Neches-Groves High School and graduated from Lamar State College of Technology in 1965 with a degree in Secretarial Science.

She was employed by Angelina Surgical Associates in the medical billing department. Ms. Morris was a longtime, active member of Denman Avenue Baptist Church. She had been a member of the Church Choir for more than 40 years and also played in the Handbell Choir at Denman Avenue.

She served as the Director of the Children’s Choir for many years, and was a member of the Hope Sunday School Class. She was also a devoted Lufkin Panther fan. Ms. Morris was known as “Nana” by her granddaughters, whom she adored.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Jamie and Whitney Carlile of Lufkin; granddaughters, Haley Carlile and Emma Carlile, both of Lufkin; much younger brother and sister-in-law, Doyle and Sharon Smith of Houston; niece, Rachel Smith of Houston; nephews, Jeffrey Smith and wife Theresa of Norfolk, Virginia, and Aaron Smith and wife Sara of Houston; and great nephews, Kaeden Smith, Ben Smith, Ian Smith, Austin Smith, and great niece, Riley Smith. Pallbearers will be Jim Havard, Kendall Moseley, Jeffrey Smith, Aaron Smith, Shane Jones, and Kurt Stephens. Memorial contributions may be made to the Denman Avenue Baptist Church Celebration Choir Ministry, 1807 E. Denman Ave.
