Stephen’s Obituary WATERFORD – Stephen Percy, 87 died at his home in Waterford, Connecticut on January 8, 2019. . He was born in Boston, Massachusetts on November 19, 1931 to Elvia Enders (Percy) Richards and George Almy Percy.
He spent his early years in New York City, but always spent his summers at his family home in Waterford, which he later made his full-time residence with his wife of forty-two years, Marilyn Percy. Steve graduated from Deerfield Academy in 1949 and Yale in 1953. He entered the Marine Corps after graduation and served twenty years, 10 Active Duty and 10 Reserve.
retiring as Lt. Colonel. The Marine Corps remained a significant part of his life.
He joined Colt Firearms after leaving the service and became Project Manager of the M16 Rifle, which he sold to the Marine Corps. Steve later joined United Technologies, working at Sikorsky Aircraft and retiring as Vice President of Military and Commercial Marketing. His next venture was working in Real Estate and later starting his own agency, Sound View Associates with his partner Ernest Bigelow, specializing in buying and selling Marinas.
Steve was a member of the New London Rotary, which was truly an important part of his life and garnered many wonderful friendships. . Steve also served on the Boards of Mitchell College, ECSO, L&M Hospital, Pequot Chapel, VNA, The Community Foundation and The Foreign Relations Committee of Southeastern CT.
and as a member of the Thames Club and Ariston. Steve is survived by his wife, Marilyn and children, Dr. Stephen Percy, Jr.(Rona) of New Jersey, Gail Landry (Merrill Marsh) of Maine, Susan Percy (Field Ryder) of Maine, Elizabeth Fisher of Old Saybrook , Karen Lipp (Paul) of Old Lyme and fourteen grandchildren and six great grand children. Steve was predeceased by his bothers George Percy and Chris Percy and is survived by his brother Michael Percy.
Special thanks to the VNA and Hospice who have been wonderful. Very special thanks to Mario and Nelia Costa for their loving care and to Nana Beria, his caregiver, for going above and beyond. The funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday at St. James Episcopal Church, 76 Federal St., New London.
