Steven’s Obituary Steven Paul Diehl, 54 of Telford, passed away peacefully on March 23, 2019 at his home, surrounded by loving relatives. He had been fighting an aggressive sarcoma for just 4 1/2 weeks. Born on May 15, 1964 in Sellersville, he was the son of Abram and Vera (Baer) Diehl of Telford.

Steve was a 1982 graduate of Souderton High School and earned his Bachelor’s degree from Wheaton College, Illinois, in 1986. He received his Master’s degree from Wheaton in 1989. He spent five years in the Czech Republic as a missionary, teaching English and American football.

He is still remembered fondly by the friends he made there. He worked most of his life as the head master of The Stony Brook School, Stony Brook, NY, The Woodlands Christian Academy, Texas, Veritas School, Richmond, VA, and Park City Academy, Utah. Steve authored a book entitled What’s Wrong with My Christian School: Exploring Christ, Culture and Purpose in Christian Schools.

Most recently, Steve worked as Executive Director of Mennonite Historians of Eastern Pennsylvania, Harleysville. He is well known in this area for starting the Harleysville Hank tradition on Groundhog Day four years ago, when he returned here from Utah. Steve served on the board of Ten Thousand Villages and on the Indian Valley Public Library Foundation of Friends.

He was a lover of literature, poetry, music, and history. He had a talent for networking in the community, renewing old friendships and making many new ones these past four years In addition to his parents, he is survived by his two children: Caleb Diehl of Portland, Oregon and Sophia Diehl of Northfield, MN and his two sisters: Joan Wismer of Telford, and Kathy (and Stephen) Knowlton of Perkasie. He was also loved by his nieces and nephews and their children.

A Celebration of Life service will be held for Steve at 2:30 PM on Saturday, April 6, at Zion Mennonite Church in Souderton, Pa. Guests are invited to visit with the family from 1:00 to 2:15 and to fellowship with others over light refreshments after the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mennonite Historians of Eastern Pennsylvania for children’s programming.
