Susan’s Obituary Susan Leila Billet passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home in Ocean City, Maryland on December 13, 2018 at the age of 57. Susan is preceded in death by her father Chester Purdy and her mother Flora Purdy. She is survived by her husband George Billet, brother David Purdy, nephew Matthew Purdy, mother-in-law Lydia and her two children Karen and Steve.

Susan cherished her dog Remi and her three cats Bella, Thunder, and Turtle. As a child growing up in a rural town in Germantown, Maryland, she and David were allowed to roam the streets and hike in the woods for hours on end until dinner time at 6:00. They made it home when the street lights came on.

Sue and Dave explored together, swam in creeks, and skipped rocks across the water. Camping on the weekends was the family norm. In her teens, Sue was usually the one who hung with the “cool” people, taking Dave in-tow.

She loved rock and roll music and her first live concert was Led Zeppelin at the Capital Center in Washington, DC. Tickets were $15. 00 for general admission.

There were many nights where her parents had no idea what devious mischief she and Dave got into, Chet and Flo would have certainly taken her car keys if they only knew! She grew up playing the flute and the oboe, which is where her love for music began. Sue enjoyed reading science fiction and books of magic.

She recently read the Harry Potter series. She cherished animals of all kinds and often posted amusing videos on social media to make her friends laugh. She considered her many pets as her “children” and cared for them as such.

She also relaxed through gardening. Susan purposely planted vibrant and a variety of flowers that attracted butterflies and birds. She smiled when seeing humming birds visit the feeder.

Sue had an extensive collection of dragons and got a kick out of decorating for Halloween. She had a purple sparkly decorative broom that hung on the wall to remind her of her inner good witch and devilish spirit every day! Sue was known for being kind and having a terrific sense of humor.

Susan loved to cook, a gift passed from her mother Flo who was a great cook. Sue’s passion for cooking was really found at the Cottage Café where she was famous for her creating delicious soup recipes. She even earned a coveted spot on the menu called “Soups by Sue”.

People would often wait in line before the restaurant opened to taste her custom-made soups. She had a very loyal following of loving customers. Her culinary gift was shared with thousands of people through her years of service at the Cottage where they encouraged her to explore and be creative.

At home, Sue could make food dishes from literally almost any ingredient, resulting in an absolute magical experience. This gift gave her so much joy in life and enabled her to connect with family and friends. You are invited to celebrate Susan’s life at Melson Funeral Services, 38040 Muddy Neck Road, Ocean View, DE on Saturday, January 26, 2019 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM with a reception to follow at The Cottage Cafe Restaurant & Pub in Bethany Beach, DE from noon until 2:00 PM.
