Theresa (Reimann) Swanson, 86, passed away peacefully on May 27, 2019 surrounded by her loving family. A first generation American, she was born on July 17, 1932 to Catherine and Theodor Reimann of Waldron Avenue in the Sunnyside section of Staten Island. She attended PS 29 and graduated from Curtis High School in 1950.

Theresa married Kenneth Swanson of Ridgewood Avenue, Eltingville in 1955. They moved to Huguenot, raised four children, and were just a few days short of their 50th wedding anniversary when Kenneth passed in 2004. A lifelong resident of Staten Island for all but the last eighteen months, “Terry” was a homemaker and an active member of the community.

She was a long time member of the Our Lady Star of the Sea choir and volunteered regularly at the parish. Later, she started a ”second career” at the Mission of the Immaculate Virgin, Mount Loreto, and retired from that position after more than 25 years of service. Terry and Ken enjoyed several activities including bowling, square dancing, and spending time with their large extended family, many of whom were also long time Staten Islanders.

Terry was also very fond of wildlife; birds in particular, and especially cardinals and pheasants. She was thrilled when deer began showing up on the island. One of her favorite past times was playing Chinese Checkers with her kids, at which she was virtually unbeatable right up to the end.

In addition to her husband, Theresa was pre-deceased by her sister Hilda Owen and her brother George Reimann. She is survived by her four children: daughter Anita Adamchick (Jack) of Clifton Park, NY, and sons Marc Swanson (Caryn) of Macungie, PA, Keith Swanson (Nancy) of Quakertown, PA, and Daniel Swanson (Christine) of Brooklyn, NY, as well as her nine grandchildren, John, Eric, Amy, Theo, Claire, Matthew, Kyra, Christopher and Kenny and her great grandson, Leo. Terry moved to the Terrace at Eddy Memorial assisted living facility in Troy, NY in November 2017.

An outgoing joiner and self-proclaimed “listener”, Terry made new friends quickly. Her family would like to thank the staff of “the Eddy” and residents Mardy McLoughlin and Herbie Schmidt for their love and companionship throughout her last months. A gathering of family and friends will take place from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. on Friday at the John Vincent Scalia Home For Funerals, Inc., 28 Eltingville Blvd.

SINY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, 5411 Amboy Rd. SI.

Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery. To send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of Theresa Swanson please visit our Sympathy Store.
