Thomas’ Obituary Thomas F. Smith, 87 of Oswego passed away peacefully Friday morning at the Manor at Seneca Hill where he had been a patient for the last year. He was born in South Orange, NJ and was the son of the late Lewis and Helen Cunningham Smith. He was one of ten children.

Tom was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy and had attained the rank of Chief Petty Officer prior to his retirement after serving 38 years and had been employed for many years as an electrician with Niagara Mohawk Power Corp. in Oswego. Mr. Smith was the husband of Mary Theresa (Terri) O’Connor Smith.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Stephen T. (Suzanne) Smith of Oswego, three daughters, Jane (Stan) Nalle of Oswego, Noreen (James) Zuccolotto of Baldwinsville, Valerie (Brian) Post of Rush, two brothers, Donald (Veronica) Smith of Millsboro, DE, James (Maureen) Smith of Smithfield, VA, three sisters, Barbara (Joe) Romano of Tuckerton, NJ, Nancy (Tom) Faulkner of Forked River, NJ, Eileen Meillo of Summit, NJ, eleven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents Helen and Lewis, his brothers, John, Lewis, Paul of NJ, and sister Noreen (Charles) Degroot of ME. Tom loved his big family and looked forward to the gathering of family members at Smithfest each July.

He loved Yankee baseball, SU basketball, golf, and spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mr. Smith was a very active communicant of St. Mary’s Church where he also served as an usher as well as coached CYO Basketball at St. Mary’s for many years. He was a member of the American Legion Post 268 and past Knight of the Year for the Oswego Knights of Columbus and a 4th Degree Past Faithful Navigator, also past president of the Ancient Order of Hibernians and volunteered many years for Meals on Wheels.

Funeral services will be Wednesday 11AM at Christ the Good Shepard at St. Mary’s Church. Calling hours will be 4-7 Tuesday at the Dain-Cullinan Funeral Home. Burial will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery.
