Bluefield, VA- Thomas L. Adkins, 71, of Bluefield, VA, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday February 24, 2019 at Bluefield Regional Medical Center. Born July 28, 1947 in Elkton, MD, he was the son of the late Buford D. Carter and Antalee Glass Carter. Tom was a lifelong resident of Bluefield and attended Brushfork Baptist Church.

Tom had a love for music and was able to share that gift by ministering to the local nursing homes and their residents. In his spare time, he liked to fish. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 49 years, Joan Adkins; daughters, Tammy Young and husband Eddie of Fayetteville, and Heather Call and husband Kevin of Bluefield; grandchildren, Jason Young, Jordan Call Vanna Robertson, Dylan Young, and Mason Young; special cousin who was more like a brother, Karl Grove and wife Louise of Greenville, SC; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

A funeral service will be conducted on Thursday February 28, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. from the Mercer Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Wes Lambert officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 1:00 p.m. until the service hour. Burial will follow at Maple Hill Cemetery in Bluefield, VA where family members will serve as pallbearers.
