Thomas V. Farrell died peacefully in his sleep at his home in Kingston on July 10, 2018. He was born to the late Vincent and Frances Crough Farrell on January 27, 1925. Tom enjoyed a blessed childhood surrounded by loving aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He moved to Kingston with his parents in 1930 and was educated at Saint Mary’s Elementary School. His father was the founder of the Farrell Cab Company and his mother was a nurse. Tom graduated from Cathedral High School and joined the United States Army.

He was assigned to the Air Force in Arlington, Texas where he trained as a Ball Turret Gunner on a B-17. During World War II, Tom was stationed at Maddingly Glotton in Britain with the 457th Bomb Group, where they flew 37 missions on two planes, “Slow But Sure” and “You Never Know”. On its final mission, the plane was so damaged the pilot had to land in France.

Of the two crew members who parachuted, one was killed and the other was captured. Eight crew members landed with the plane and were taken by French Freedom Fighters to sanctuary in local farms before returning home to England. After his discharge, Tom returned to Kingston and married Marjorie Wiedemann, Together they enjoyed their life as parents of eleven children, until Marge’s death in 1998.

Survivors include his wife of seventeen years, Rosalie Farrell, and his children, Pati Podell (Allan) of New Orleans, LA, SueEllyn of Casco, ME, Thomas S. of Philadelphia, PA, David (Jeanne) of S. Glastonbury, CT, Nancy Di Anni (Barnaby) of Apex, NC, Vincent of Chicago, IL, Felice of Kingston, Abbie Reinhardt (Kirk) of Port Ewen, and 18 loving grandchildren. Tom opened his heart to Rosalie’s family, three step-daughters Denise, Nancy, Mary their spouses, children and grandchildren. Tom was predeceased by two sons, Timmy and Michael, and a daughter Ruth.

Friends will be received at the Simpson-Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave, on Thursday, July 19, 2018 from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm A Mass will be celebrated at Sacred Heart R.C. Church on Friday, July 20, 2018 at 10:00 am If you wish, In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in his name to a charity of your choice. Tom was such a loving and caring man, so we ask you to share his message to be kind to everyone.
