He retired from Nogle and Black Roofing in 2009. His artistry and skills are still on display in the many projects he completed in the Champaign-Urbana area. A few examples are: Red Lobster, Carle Hospital entrance, and the roof on the Bell Tower on the south quad at the University of Illinois.

Metal work was not his only passion. He earned his pilot’s license, allowing him to fly his family around the area. One memorable trip was to fly his son, Brian, to Indiana simply to buy a Mountain Dew.

Another form of transportation he enjoyed was riding his Harley-Davidson. He was a life-long learner with a big heart and an open mind. Though he had a “tough guy” persona, he was a romantic at heart.
