Obituary for Virginia “Jenny” Louise Steele (Hicks) Virginia “Jenny” Louise Steele, age 78, of Swords Creek, Virginia, passed away Thursday (November 15, 2018) in Hummingbird Retirement Villa at Lebanon, Virginia. Born December 13, 1939 in Russell County, Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Clarence and Ocie Vance Hicks. A lifelong resident of the area, she was a member of the Dye Presbyterian Church.

She was a graduate of Honaker High School and had received her Bachelors’ Degree in Social Services from Virginia Intermont. She had formerly been employed as a Social Worker with Appalachian Agency for Senior Citizens. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, Christopher Lee Steele and Mark Anthony Steele; two brothers, Clarence “JR” Hicks, Jr. and Billy Hicks, and one sister, Betty Dye.

Survivors include three children, Lolita Lockhart and husband, Carter, and Rita Powell and husband, Charlie, and Angela Roberts all of Swords Creek; seven grandchildren, Kevin Roberts and wife, Misty, Dr. Erik Roberts, Taber Roberts, Joshua Lockhart, Michael Lockhart and wife, Beth, Nathan Powell, Jenny Keen and husband, Jeremy; three great-grandchildren, Kaylie Roberts, Ethan Roberts, and Michael “Mikey” Lockhart, Jr.; two sisters, Brenda Lester of Doran, Virginia and Delores Dye and husband, Bobby “Tub” of Newark, Ohio; several nieces and nephews also survive. The family would like to extend a very special thank you to the staff of Hummingbird Retirement Villa, Helping Hands and Legacy Hospice for the wonderful care they provided. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Monday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Pastor Paul Min officiating.

Interment will follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Virginia. Relatives and friends will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at the Honaker Funeral Home after 6:00 PM Sunday.
