Virginia Mae Ward Snyder January 02, 1916 – February 12, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers Sign Guestbook| Send Private Condolences| Send Sympathy Card Virginia Mae Ward Snyder, formerly of Charles Town died peacefully surrounded by her family on Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2019 at Homewood in Williamsport, Maryland. Virginia was born on Jan.

2, 1916 in Wooster, Ohio. She spent her young life growing up in Ohio. She met her future husband, Donald William Snyder, while working as a cashier at the J.J. Newberry Company Five and Ten Cent Store where he was training as a manager.

“He always said ‘he met his Million Dollar Baby at the Five and Ten Cent Store! ”. They raised their family of five children as they were moved from Ohio to Pennsylvania and finally settling in Charles Town.

She was a devoted wife and mother and provided a happy and loving environment for her family. She enjoyed flowers and gardening. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren remember fondly having tea parties and her collection of tea pots.

The family were faithful members of the Saint Thomas Lutheran Church. Virginia was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Donald William Snyder; her parents, Albert Edward Ward and Venetta McClure Ward; sisters, Helen Neal, Eleanor Walters, Ethel Young and three brothers, James Ward, Richard Ward, A. Edward Ward and son-in-law, Reginald Skinner. Virginia is survived by her daughters, Diane Skinner, of Huntsville, Alabama, Judy Henry (Robert), of Blounts Creek, North Carolina, Virginia Hoffman (Howard), of Potomac, Maryland and Venetta Rohal (John) of San Francisco, California and son, Donald William Snyder, Jr. (Linda) of Shepherdstown; twelve grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.

Her family would like to pay tribute to the staff at Homewood in Williamsport for all of their loving kindness and care that they showed to our mother over these past years. We are so very grateful to you all. There will be a graveside service at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb.

18, 2019 at the Edge Hill Cemetery in Charles Town with Pastor Jeff Shull officiating. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations may be made to Homewood at Williamsport, 16505 Virginia Avenue, Williamsport, Maryland 21795 or St. Thomas Lutheran Church, 111 South Seminary Street, Charles Town, WV 25414. Arrangements by the Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town.
