Wahneta “Jean” (Lawson) Friend, 83, of Friendsville, MD, died Tuesday, May 14, 2019, at her residence. Her passing leaves an unfillable void in the lives of her family and friends. Her enduring optimistic, pleasant and incredibly kind demeanor will live on in the hearts of her descendants.

Born June 11, 1935, in Hazelton, WV, she was the daughter of the late Chester D. and Fay E. (Rodeheaver) Lawson. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Mervin Wade Friend, June 23, 2015; and three brothers, Blaine, Gayle and Kent Lawson. Jean worked at Team One, as well as working alongside her husband, Wade, managing their family farm and trucking company, Wade Friend Trucking.

She was a member of the Mountain Dale Church of the Brethren, Mountain Dale, WV. She is survived by her daughter, Sandi Wakefield and husband, Larry; granddaughter, Lohri Kreger and husband, Mark, and Lohri’s daughter, Holly Sisler-Orendorf and husband, Ben and their children, Leena and Quinn; granddaughter, Amanda Martin and son, Devon and wife, Sara; grandson, Larry Wakefield and wife, Kara, and his children, Carson and Vanessa; and sisters-in-law, Pat Lawson and Betty Jane Lawson. Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 943 Second Ave.

, Friendsville, on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home on Saturday, May 18, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Dana Umbel officiating. Interment will be in the Blooming Rose Cemetery.
