Walter A. Packard, 91, of Williamsport, passed away peacefully Tuesday, March 12, 2019 at the Gatehouse of Divine Providence Hospital. Surviving is his loving wife of 70 years, Sarah J. (Gresh) Packard. Born March 11, 1928, in Williamsport, he was a son of the late Laura T. (Wheeland) Packard.

He was raised by his mother and grandmother. Walt was a graduate of Williamsport High School, Class of 1946. He learned his trade in pattern work at Williamsport Technical Institute.

Walt worked at Sprout Waldron as a pattern maker, before owning and operating the Williamsport Pattern Works where he worked until his retirement. Walt was an 80-year member of Trinity United Methodist Church, where he was involved with the men’s fellowship group and was the potato masher extraordinaire for church dinners. He enjoyed hunting, ice fishing at Rose Valley Lake, and spending time at his cabin in Blossburg.

Walt was a quiet man who had a passion for grafting nut trees and woodworking. He was a loving husband and a wonderful father, particularly to his special needs daughter, Barbie. Surviving in addition to his wife are his six children, Barbara Packard, Christine Packard, Sharon Packard, all of Williamsport, Kenneth Packard (Joy) of Jersey Shore, Diane Campbell (Gene) of Williamsport, and Bill Packard of Lock Haven, three grandchildren; Kellie Campbell (Phil Sawyer), Sarah Guthrie (Steve), Meghan Packard (Tim Walker), and eight great-grandchildren.

In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by a brother Ralph G. Packard and a son-in-law Nicholas Cipriani. A memorial service to honor the life of Walter will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, March 23 at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1971 Lycoming Creek Road, Williamsport. The family will receive friends following the service.
