CONE—Walter Leslie Cone, 72, passed away Sunday, January 6, 2019. Walter was born in Pensacola, Florida, on June 25, 1946. He was raised in a military family, which gave him the opportunity to live and travel overseas.

He graduated from University of South Florida. During his life, Walter worked as a social worker, public school teacher, college professor, research analyst, and author. He retired from the State of Florida after working at the University of South Florida for over 30 years.

Upon retirement in 2009, Walter moved to Fleming Island to be near his family. Walter was preceded in death by his brother, Terry Wayne Cone; sister, Linda Ruth Cone; father, Walter Curtis Cone; and mother, Beulah Mae Cone. He is survived by his brother, John Curtis Cone (Linda Jo Cone); sister, Debra Cone Pitts; nephews and nieces: Ronald Wayne Smith, Jr., Joseph Curtis Cone, Cassandra Elaine Sanford (Bradley Eugene Sanford), and Amanda Gayle Smith-Voigt (Jason Earl Voigt); and great niece and nephews: Annalea Marie Smith, Ryan Anthony Voigt, and Remington Alexander Voigt.

Walter will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. A Memorial Mass in celebration of his life will be held January 17, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 7190 Highway U.S. 17, Fleming Island, Florida 32003. Walter will be laid to rest at Jacksonville Memory Gardens in a private family service.
