Wilbur Allen Long, 79, of North Vernon, passed away at 2:45 p.m. on September 3, 2018 at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility in Columbus. Born June 17, 1939 in Russell Springs, Kentucky, he was the son of Albert and Violet Cooper Long. He married Patsy Eador Long on May 2, 1959 in Kent; she survives.

Mr. Long graduated from Deputy High School in 1958 before going on to serve in the Air Force Reserves until 1961. He worked as a draftsman for Cummins for 31 years before retiring in 1989. He was a member of the North Vernon First Christian Church where he had formerly served as a deacon.

He enjoyed reading western books and watching western movies. Surviving with his wife is his son, David Long, of Butlerville; daughter, Charlene Burton, of North Vernon; brother, Jerry (Doris) Long, of Fairlane; grandchild, Brandon (Shelby) Long, of Columbus; and great grandchild, Maddox Long, of Columbus. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Vivian Long and Geneva Roberson; and brothers Samuel Long, James Long, and Dennis Long.

A funeral service for Mr. Long will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 8, 2018 at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services with Rev. Ron Bridgewater officiating. Family and friends may call on Friday, September 7, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Coffee Creek Christian Church Cemetery. Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Coffee Creek Christian Church Cemetery.
