Wilda Spears Fontenot February 08, 1929 – February 11, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers Sign Guestbook| Send Sympathy Card OPELOUSAS ~ Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 14, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. in Melancon Funeral Home Chapel in Opelousas for Wilda Fontenot, age 90, the former Wilda Spears, who passed away Monday, February 11, 2019 at Old Jefferson Community Care in Baton Rouge. Interment will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Washington. The Rev.

Regina Hickman, pastor of Louisiana Memorial United Methodist Church, will officiate at the services. Ms. Wilda was a native and lifelong resident of Opelousas, where she was a member of Louisiana Memorial United Methodist Church and was the cook for over 20 years at the local Dairy Queen. Survivors include a son, Gary Fontenot and his companion, Allison Griffin, of Holden; two daughters, Jackie Fontenot McDaniel of Gilbert, AZ and Peggy Fontenot Corkern and her husband, David, of Baton Rouge; a brother-in-law, Lanny Trahan; a sister-in-law, Virginia Spears; nine grandchildren, Bubba McDaniel and his wife, Heather, Charlotte McDaniel McGehee and her husband, Troy, Catherine McDaniel, Crystal Barrett and her husband, Michael, Tiffany Benoit and her husband, Stacey, Steve Fontenot and his wife, Lindsey, and David Corkern, II; and ten great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Alvin Fontenot; her parents, Willie Spears, Sr. and the former Edith Childs; two brothers, Willie Spears, Jr. and John Thomas Spears; a brother-in-law, Elton Briscoe; three sisters, Mae Mosley, Julia Trahan and Letty Briscoe; and one sister-in-law, Geraldine Spears. The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 8:00 a.m. Thursday until service time on Thursday. Pallbearers will be Bubba McDaniel, Steve Fontenot, David Corkern, II, Michael Barrett, Troy McGehee and Charles McDaniel, Sr. Honorary pallbearer will be Stacey Benoit.

Melancon Funeral Home of Opelousas, 4708 I-49 North Service Road, (337) 407-1907, is in charge of arrangements.
