William Arthur “Billy” Gushue, Sr., age 64, of Johnstown passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, January 20, 2019. He was born on June 2, 1954 in Herkimer, a son of the late Cyril Gushue and Rose Massocco Gushue. Billy was a high school graduate of Richmondville Central School.

He was employed as a Truck Driver for the Johnstown Water Department for 40 years until his retirement in 2009. Mr. Gushue also worked part-time at the Admissions Gate of Fonda Speedway and enjoyed watching the races at the track. Billy enjoyed spending time with his family and also loved to travel, especially to Utah.

He is survived by his fiancée and love of his life Melinda Rose Ackerknecht of Johnstown; two sons William Arthur Gushue, Jr. (Jonnie) of Layton, Utah and Jamey R. Gushue (Deborah) of Perth, one daughter Alicia R. Gushue (Andrew Weigle) of Mayfield; six brothers Howard Gushue (Nola), Vince Gushue (Debi), Mike Gushue (Patty), Jimmy Gushue, Anthony Gushue and Gene Gushue, one sister Bonnie Desjardins (Dan); four grandchildren Kaidan, Devin, Kaleb and Jordan; three great grandchildren Dax, Mykah and Oliver; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be conducted at 4:00 P.M. on Thursday, January 24, 2019, at the A.G. Cole Funeral Home, Inc., 215 E. Main Street, Johnstown with Rev. Dr. R.W. Williams officiating.

Visitation for family and friends will be prior to the service on Thursday, January 24, 2019 from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
