William Barry Ames of Sarver, formerly of New Kensington, 83, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Tuesday September 4th, 2018. He was born November 24, 1934 son of William Francis Ames and Doris Lucille Ames. He was married to Katrina (Stroup) Ames for 50 years.

He graduated from Shady Side Academy in 1953. While there he was an outstanding football player, being named All American in football. After a tour of duty in the United States Army, he attended Cornell University then the University of Pennsylvania while he earned the degree of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1963.

He was the past president of the Western Pennsylvanian Veterinary Medical Association, the American Veterinary Medical Association, the American Animal Hospital Association, co-founder of Allegheny Veterinary Emergency Clinic and director of the Rainbow Pet Care Center in Natrona Heights, which he founded in March of 1968. He served on the board of directors of the New Kensington YMCA. He was a member of Evangel Heights Assemblies of God for 36 years, serving on the Board of Directors and teaching Sunday School.

He believed Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever, (Hebrews 13:8). He experienced a growing hunger for the Word of God. He kept in touch with Him through Bible reading, prayer and his church life.

He was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed fishing and hiking many sections of the Appalachian trail with his wife Katrina. He loved running and ran the Pittsburgh marathon.

He became a foster parent with his wife for many years. He is survived by his wife, of 50 years, Katrina (Stroup) Ames. His children, William Barry Ames II of Boynton Beach, Fl.

; Robert Paul Ames of Tampa, FL: Amber Lee (Mrs. Steven) Haik of Lafayette, LA; Eric Philip Hanna of Gainesville, FL; Christopher Francis Ames of Natrona Heights, PA; Morgan Elizabeth Ames of Sarver, PA. He has 5 grandchildren: Nathan Hanna, Isabella Ames, Brandon Haik, Nicole Ames, Erica Ames and 2 great grandchildren. One sister: Sue (Ames) Wyant of Lower Burrell, PA.

He was predeceased by his parents. Family and friends will be received Friday September 7th from 11:00 am until services at 1:30 p.m. at the Evangel Heights Church, 120 Beale Rd. Sarver PA with Pastor Dan Corfield officiating.

Burial will be held in Greenwood Memorial Park, Lower Burrell. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to Evangel Heights Church 120 Beale Road Sarver PA 16055.
