William Edward (Big Eddie) Johnson, Sr, 61, of Fishersville, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 22, 2018 at his home. He was born October 9, 1956, in Staunton, son of the late John William Johnson and Myrtle Lee Virginia Bottenfield Johnson. Eddie was a landscaper with Waynesboro Garden Center where he had 38 years of service.

He was always willing to help anyone in need and he had a “green thumb” and always had a meticulous yard. He loved playing pool, horseshoes, darts and watching NASCAR. Eddie will be missed by family and friends and a multitude of customers at Waynesboro Garden Center.

The family would like to express special appreciation to Martha Snyder, Joyce Louk, Aaron Atkins, Linda Cash, Anita Gwin and Janet and Harold McLain. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by Linda, his loving wife of 35 years; his grandfather, Oliver Buchanon and loving grandmother, Mary Bell, who raised him; his mother-in-law, Lena Faye Wilburn (Shorty) and sister, Joey Mulloy. He is survived by one daughter, Lisa Renee Johnson and her fiancé, Chad Patterson; one son, William Edward Johnson Jr. (Little Eddie); his grandchildren, Cody McLain, Logan Houston, Skylar Johnson, Brooklyn Patterson and Payton Patterson and great-grandson, Brantley William McLain; his sisters, Brenda Shoemaker and Mary Elizabeth Simmons and husband, Garry; his lifetime friend and brother, Alphues T. Cale (Bunny); brother-in-law, Ronnie Wilburn; sisters-in-law, Diane Johnson and Connie Zagrodnicheck; niece, Cindy Waggy; special friends, Gary Brown, Robbie Drumheller, Richard Crowder, Bobby Keiser, Sharon Thompson, Troy Johnson, Phil Sheets, James McChesney, Dewey McLain, Kim Buchholz, Stephanie Barker Lotts, Jack Stairwelt, Earnie Hewitt, Coty and Holly Brown, Tommy Powell, Thornton Cale, Logan Drumheller and Earnest and Joann Ecoe.

A Memorial Service will be held at 7:00 PM, Tuesday, May 1, 2018, in the Chapel of Charlton and Groome Funeral Home, 619 Lifecore Drive, Fishersville, conducted by the Rev. Pete Campbell. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until the hour of the service, 7:00 PM.

Following the service, the family will receive friends at their home, 190 Fishersville Road, Fishersville. The family suggests memorial contributions, in Eddie’s memory, be made to a charity of your choice. Share Memories and condolences at www.
