Obituary for William H. “Trey” Pope III William H. “Trey” Pope, III, 52, of Laurel, passed away on June 7, 2018, at South Central Regional Medical Center in Laurel. Visitation will be held from 5 until 8 p.m. Saturday, June 9th at Trinity Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held at the church at 3 p.m. on Sunday, with interment at Shady Grove Cemetery.
Reverends Jason Goodwin, Ken Johnson and Bill Blair will officiate. The body will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Sunday. Trey attended Shady Grove Elementary School and graduated from West Hones High School in 1983 and also graduated from Jones County Junior College.
He graduated from East MS Community College in Automotive Paint and Body and received a bachelor of science from USM. He was intent on carrying on the family tradition and became a third-generation educator. During his life-time he worked for several businesses including American Bearings; Auto Zone, where he enjoyed working for twelve years (full time and part time) and worked his way up to management opening stores in different cities; Jasper County Career Center, teaching Automotive Mechanics for eight years; and most recently Farm Bureau Federation as one of three safety specialists in MS where he taught Farm and Shop Safety, Work Place Safety, CPR, Water Safety, Fire Safety, ATV Safety, and First Aid.
Trey was always giving and joking. He spoke what was on his mind at all times. He planted gardens to help feed the widows and provided food for Meals on Wheels.
He loved being around kids and being a mentor to them. He enjoyed going to gun shows and supporting the second amendment, and he loved Holly, his chocolate lab. Trey loved to horse trade for anything, whether he needed it or not.
He just loved the thrill of a deal. He will also be remembered as always being a gentleman. Trey leaves behind a loving wife, Denise Pope; his son, Donovan Pope; a loving father, W. H. Pope, Jr.; and his brother, Jay Pope; along with several nieces and a nephew.
