William Lester Pewitt Sr. August 11, 1931 – January 26, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers Sign Guestbook| Send Private Condolences| Send Sympathy Card William Lester Pewitt, age 87, passed away peacefully on January 26, 2019 in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Most of his life was spent in the Halls Mill Community. He was a member of The First Church of the Nazarene.

Lester was born in Williamson County on August 11, 1931 to the late John William and Sally Givens Pewitt. He graduated from Community School and soon enlisted in the United States Navy where he served in the Korean War as a radio man on the U.S.S. Bausell. Lester was a Fuel System Specialist at Arnold Engineering Development Center for 38 years until his retirement 1994.

He spent his free time farming, hunting, fishing and following his favorite athletic teams. Lester was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Mary Ann, three brothers, John Greene, Earl, and James as well as six sisters, Vernon Herb, Catherine Brown, Mabel Wright, Sarah Dotson, Ethel Pugh, and Mildred Crowell. Lester was a most beloved husband, father and grandfather.

Survivors include his wife of sixty years, Tabitha Pearl Pewitt, of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, children Shawn (Mario) Diaz of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, Brenda (Jim) Sanchez of Thompson’s Station, Les (Vickie) Pewitt of Franklin and Lori Ann (Brian) Swistak of Hattiesburg, MS, eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Friends are welcome for visitation at Gowen Smith Chapel on January 30, 2019 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Thursday, January 31, 2019 at the First Church of the Nazarene with the Reverend Ron DeWitt officiating.

Interment will be held at Crowell’s Chapel Cemetery. Pallbearers are Ellison Seales, Stanley Fanning, Brent Pewitt, Turner Swistak, Marissa Diaz and Ray Pugh.
