Obituary for William R. (Bob) McGuinness William R. (Bob) McGuinness, 95, of Connellsville passed away on Sunday July 1, 2018 in the South Connelsville Care Home surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 12, 1923, the son of the late Anthony J. and Florence (Shaw) McGuinness. He was a member of the American Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners Union.
He was previously employed by Dill Construction Co. and George Danko Construction, both of Latrobe, Pa. He was also a self-employed Homebuilder and Remodeler in the 1950’s and 1960’s, building many homes in the local area. He was also a loving caregiver for many years for his disabled son.
He was a WWII army veteran having fought with General Patton’s Third Army in Europe with the 80th Infantry Division, 319th regiment, Company A, as a rifleman and sniper and attained the rank of Sergeant. He received the Bronze Star medal, Good Conduct medal, Victory medal, European Theater medal, with two stars, Army of Occupation medal, Expert Rifleman medal and Combat Infantry Badge. He was a long standing member of the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, a life member of the Kinghts of Columbus,Post 948, the VFW Post 21 and the American Legion Post 301.
He was also member of the Elks, #503 and the Fairview Aid Society. He was an avid sports enthusiast playing in many local baseball leagues in his younger days. He coached various teams in Little League, Pony League and Teener League leading up to his position of head baseball coach for Geibel High School for 6 years and assistant coach for many other years.
He was an active bowler and golfer with the Knights of Columbus for decades. His other interests included hunting , woodworking and carving, gardening and playing the harmonica. He will be sadly missed by his wife of 68 years, Flora( Pernatozzi) McGuinness; his children, Thomas ( Katrina) McGuinness, MaryAnne( David ) Soisson and Linda( William) Brooks , all of Connellsville and his grandchildren, Patrick Soisson, Amanda Benvenuto, Michael Brooks and Cody McGuinness; a great granddaughter, Marielle Benvenuto and many nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents he was predeceased by a son, Mark, an infant daughter, a grandson, Tommy McGuinness; five brothers, Rex, Wayne, Richard ( Muggs), Edward and Donald McGuinness. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Family and friends will be received from 2-9 P.M. Wednesday in the Brooks Funeral Home, Inc., 111 E. Green St..
Connellsville where a Blessing Service will be held on Thursday at 9:30 A.M. followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 A.M. in the Immaculate Conception R.C. Church with Rev. Robert Lubic as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.
