Obituary for William Wright Schwarz “When in doubt, read the directions”. “Measure twice, cut once”. “Everything in moderation”.

These were a few of the guiding principles that were passed along by William W. Schwarz who died on November 6th just three weeks shy of his 90th birthday. He was born November 27 1928 in Savannah, GA to Julius Carl Schwarz and Frances Bell (Wright), and grew up in Williamsburg, VA where he graduated from The College of William and Mary with a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry. Following 2-years of service in the US Army, Ordnance Corp he married Patricia Atwill and raised two daughters in Huntsville, AL where he worked at Thiokol Corp.

developing solid-rocket propellants. He was active in the Little Theater, the Sports Car Club of America, and the local Boy Scouts Sea Explorers unit who learned about sailing from him. Married to Anita Sue Ashby in 1984, he later retired to Mentone, AL where he put his chemistry background to work making wine and renewed his interest in woodworking.

He was treated to a 90th birthday celebration just 10 days before his passing and remarked that it was great to be able to celebrate his life’s journey surrounded by so many of his friends and family and to laugh at the stories and memories that everyone shared. “If this is it, I’m going out with a bang! ” He was preceded in death by his first wife Patricia and his eldest daughter Kathleen and his sister Dorothy.

He is survived by his wife Sue, his daughter Janet, two step daughters, two step granddaughters, a niece and nephew and five grandnieces and nephews who he never failed to welcome with open arms and a big bear hug. “We’ve had a good run! ” To send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of William Wright Schwarz please visit our Sympathy Store.
