Obituary for Alberta Brummett Juanita “Alberta” Brummett was born August 19, 1942, in Paul’s Valley, OK to James Horace & Juanita Sheppard of the Civit Community. They enjoyed several years in this community until her parents divorced which set the wheels in motion for her to begin the fond journey of living with her grandparents, David & Mary Sheppard, and uncle, David Sheppard on what is known as the Sheppard Dairy East of Pauls Valley. This was her happy place she always spoke of her entire life.

In 1949, J.H. married Edith. J.H. had 3 girls, Edith had 4 kids, then they added 4 more to make a total of 11 siblings in the Sheppard clan. They continued to live NE of PV until she graduated from PVHS in 1960.

Sept. 3, 1960, she married the love of her life, John W. Brummett. To this union, came 3 children.

Alberta followed John on his work travels to the panhandle. There they worked side by side & with their kids to build a beautiful house and a legacy of work ethic & morals that continue to be passed down to her grandsons & great granddaughter. During their time in the panhandle, John & Alberta saved enough money to be able to buy the Sheppard Dairy, some of the original herd, & eventually the Rockin E Ranch to allow her parents peace of mind in their golden years.

Alberta attended PSU & OU where she achieved her bachelor’s, master’s & even some hours toward her doctorates degree. In 1974 Alberta began her teaching career at Hooker Public schools. There she was the elementary librarian and 5th grade teacher for 15 years.

In August 1989 she came back home to the dairy. She and John ran it until his death in 1994 at which time she sold out & started running beef cattle instead. In 1990, Alberta received a job offer from Wayne Public schools.

She stayed their until her retirement. She loved her Wayne family as much as any other & constantly tried to recruit her daughter to join her. Upon her retirement, Alberta went back to OU to work on a doctorates degree before becoming a world traveler with her friends.

She touched many people’s lives through her life & will be missed by many. Alberta was preceded in death by her grandparents, David & Mary, favorite uncle, David, parents, J.H. & Edith. Her sister, Marquitta Blevins, her grandbaby Behne, and in-laws, Willard & Audrey Brummett.

To continue her legacy of a caring & giving spirit are her children, Marty Brummett of PV, Mitchell Brummett & wife Linda LaRue of Yukon, & Jeannette & husband, Rick Behne of PV. Grandkids includes Dusty & wife, Theodora Behne, Stillwater; Cody Behne & wife, Dawn Morris-Behne, Perry; Brody Behne, PV; & the only great granddaughter, Aubrey Behne also of Stillwater. Siblings include: Kenneth & Peggy Campbell, Linda Shaw, James Robert & Jeannie Rickey, Jim & Mary Campbell, Eddie & Kathy Blevins, Janie & Billy Gregory, Audrey & Sherman Williams, Susan & Bob Knight, David & Kay Sheppard, and Phillip & Jamie Sheppard.

She is survived by many special friends that were family…Zack Powell, her Hooker & Wayne teachers, James Richardson, Chad Hillis, Jason Madden & Brenda Dunn & many cousins, nieces, nephews, & former students.
