Alexander Alec F Sutherland , July 07, 1923 — April 29, 2018

Alexander “Alec” Ferguson Sutherland, 94, of Falmouth Road passed away Sunday at Baystate Medical Center. He was born in Bernardston, MA on July 7th, 1923 to the late John and Hazel (Hale) Sutherland. He grew up in the Bernardston and later moved down to this area and graduated from Springfield Technical High School.

Alec worked in sales for both the GE and Sylvania Corporations. He was a lifelong member of the South Congregational Church in Springfield. He proudly served his country during WW II in the U.S. Army Air Corp.

13th Division. He was highly decorated including 5 Bronze Stars and the Air Medal with a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster. He served as a Belly Gunner in numerous campaigns in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater.

He was the loving husband of 74 years to the late Sylvia (Root) Sutherland who passed away in 2016. He was the beloved uncle of John, Chris, Susan, and Kevin Sutherland, Janet Pund, and Greg Sharon and he also leaves numerous great nieces and nephews. There will be a Funeral Home Service Thursday at 11:30 AM at the TOOMEY-O’BRIEN FUNERAL HOME, 1043 Westfield Street, West Springfield.

The burial will follow at Paucatuck Cemetery in West Springfield. In lieu of flowers donations in Alec’s name may be made to the South Congregational Church, 45 Maple Street, Springfield, MA 01105 or to the Alzheimer’s Disease Assn. , 264 Cottage Street, Springfield, MA 01104.
