Alfaretta Miles, 95, of Tallahassee Florida, formerly of Bell Township, passed away February 26, 2018 in Tallahassee Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. Alfaretta was born June 6, 1922 in Apollo to the late Lawrence and Hannah Ament Moore. Lawrence and Hannah had thirteen children and Alfaretta was the last surviving of those children.

She was preceded in death by brothers, James, Bobby Lee, Frank, John, Alexander, Lawrence, Elmer, Leland, and Denny Moore, sisters, Edmee… Read More » Paul, Madeline Mehrmann, and Isabelle McClellan. She was well known for her seamstress skills and made many beautiful garments for her family and friends. She worked at Steiner Manufacturing in Saltsburg, Penn Needle in Spring Church, and for many years as Secretary/Treasurer for Bell Township.

Following her retirement, she enjoyed traveling to many areas of the country sight-seeing and visiting family and friends. She belonged to the Bell Township Chapter of the Pennsylvania Grange and was a member of St. James Lutheran Church. Surviving are her daughter Virginia with whom she lived, four grandchildren, Heather (Brian) Thornton, Heidi (Tom) Sheaffer, John (Jamie) Lutz, and Brandon Brice, two great grandsons, Alex Thornton and Hank Lutz, and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held to honor Alfaretta at Curran-Shaffer Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 100 Owens View Ave, Apollo, on Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Thomas Holmes officiating. Private interment in Fairview Cemetery, Spring Church, at the convenience of the family.
