Richard Donald “Don” “Red” Stevenson, 80, of the Paulton section of Washington Township, passed away on Thursday, June 21, 2018, at AHN- Forbes Regional Hospital, Monroeville, surrounded by his loving family on what was his 60th wedding anniversary. Born June 2, 1938 in Pittsburgh, he was a son of the late Edward and Martha (Reihm) Stevenson. Don was a 1956 graduate of Leechburg High School, and lived in Washington Township for the last 31 years.

He retired from Prudential Insurance… Read More » in 2000, and then spent his time writing and doing photography for local papers, mainly historical articles. Don was active with both the Apollo and Leechburg Historical Societies, and enjoyed researching his family history through genealogy. He was a former president of Roaring Run Watershed Association, and was an active participant in helping to build and beautify the trail.

In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his brother, Robert in 2017; and his granddaughter, Angelia, who passed away in 2007. He is survived by his loving wife, Frances R. (Ward) Stevenson; children, Gary (Lynn) Stevenson of Pennellville, NY, Gail (Jeffrey) Filippini of Avonmore, Jodi (Erik) Hilty of Latrobe; grandchildren, Nicole (Benjamin) Bish, Ashley Stevenson, Racheal (David) Gaydos, Kim Murray, Bryan Murray, Gary Lee Stevenson, Jr., Gavin Filippini, Carter Hilty; eight great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. Friends will be received in the Curran-Shaffer Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 100 Owens View Ave.

, Apollo, on Monday, June 25, 2018 from 3:00 p.m. until the hour of service at 6:00 p.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Lora Kline officiating. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made in Don’s memory to the Roaring Run Watershed Association, PO Box 333, Apollo, PA 15613.
