Lorenza “Loretta” (Cioccio) DeCapite, 98, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at QLS- West Haven Manor, Washington Township. Born January 4, 1920 in Donora, she was a daughter of the late Giovanni “John” & Natalina (Monaco) Cioccio. At the age of 2, Loretta and her family returned to Rocca Pia Abruzzo, Italy, where her father’s family lived.

During the winter months, she would help her mother prepare hot meals for the avid skiers that would frequent the Rivisondoli slopes.

She returned to the United States on October 21, 1937 on the S.S. Vulcania. After a short stay in Ellis Island’s dormitories, she and her family moved back to Donora, where she lived until her marriage to Benjamin DeCapite on April 10, 1948. They bought a house on Sycamore Street in Vandergrift, where she resided until her death.

Loretta was a devoted housewife, mother, and grandmother. She had very talented hands; always sewing, knitting, or crocheting beautiful items worn and used by her family and friends, even to this day. Loretta had a passion for cooking & baking.

Her homemade pasta and sauce, Easter bread, cream puffs, Italian bread rolls, and ricotta cheesecakes would always make mouths water, and will be dearly missed. Loretta was a member of St. Gertrude Catholic Church since her arrival in Vandergrift. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin; siblings, Armand (Jane) Cioccio, Daniel (Josephine) Cioccio, and Angelina Cioccio.

Loretta is survived by her children, Mary Jane (Robert) George of Allegheny Township, Dennis Robert (Linda) DeCapite of Leechburg; granddaughters, Michele R. George, Lauren R. DeCapite, Christine E. DeCapite; great grandchildren, Trent DeCapite, Jackson & Braxton Roberts; brother, William (Marilyn) Cioccio of Elizabeth, PA; and many nieces and nephews. Friends will be received on Thursday, June 7, 2018 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Brady-Curran Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 429 Franklin Ave. , Vandergrift.

Parting Prayers of Transfer will be held on Friday, June 8, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. in St. Gertrude Roman Catholic Church, 303 Franklin Ave. , Vandergrift, with Father Arnell Estrella as celebrant. Entombment in Greenwood Memorial Park, Lower Burrell.
