Joan Svantner, 74, of Burrell Township, after a courageous and spirited 4 year battle with lung cancer, passed away surrounded by her loving family, Thursday, July 12, 2018 in Burrell Township. Born July 19, 1943 in Vandergrift, she was the daughter of the late John and Mary (Zubal) Svantner. Joan was a 1960 graduate of Ford City High School and lived in Burrell Township most of her life.

She was employed as a secretary in Harrisburg for 5 years, a laborer at Robert Shaw, Indiana,… Read More » PA for 10 years, machine operator for R& P Coal Company for 12 years, and a laborer for a Rubber Company in Kittanning for 10 years until her retirement in 2000. Joan enjoyed fishing, gardening, traveling, and collecting Indian artifacts. She loved her German Shepherd, “Zeke”.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her life partner, Joan F. Long- May 19, 2017. Joan is survived by her, sisters, Lilian (Bob) Kimmell, Marian Smail, nephew, Michael (Erin) Kimmell all of Burrell Township, grandnephew, Nathaniel (fiancée Missy) Kimmell of Butler, great grandnephew, Emmett, and great friends, Laura (Jim) Landis of Harrisburg. At Joan’s request there will be no viewing or services.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Curran-Shaffer Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 100 Owens View Ave. Apollo, PA.
