Herbert Samuel Barber, Jr. 87 of Apollo, passed away on Monday, July 2, 2018 in Indiana Regional Hospital, Indiana. Born December 19, 1930 in Vandergrift, he was a son of the late Herbert Samuel Barber, Sr. and Catherine Marie (Painter) Barber. Herbert lived in the Apollo area all of his life, and proudly served our country in the United States Army during the Korean War.

He was employed at the A & P and Shop N’ Save as a produce manager, retiring in 1992. Herbert was a member… Read More » of St. James Roman Catholic Church in Apollo. He enjoyed working, carpentry, making wooden lamps, watching Pittsburgh sports teams, and gardening.

Herbert liked to keep busy and was never one to sit and twiddle his thumbs. In addition to his parents, He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary (Smitchko) Barber, who passed away on May 1, 1994. Herbert is survived by his wife of 21 years, Patricia K. (Pruette) Barber of Apollo; daughter, Deborah Ann (David) Mihalic of Simpsonville, SC; two sons, Randy Barber of Clarksburg, Gary Barber of Spring Church; grandchildren, Justin, Adam, and Jordyn Mihalic, Cody, Emilee and Madison Barber; two sisters, Laura Aber of Vandergrift and Betty Secrist of Woodland, OR; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Family will receive friends on Thursday, July 5, 2018 from 6:00-8:00pm and Friday, July 6, 2018 from 2:00 until the hour of service at 4:00pm in the Curran-Shaffer Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc, 100 Owens View Avenue, Apollo, with Father John Euker, officiating. Interment will follow in Riverview Cemetery, Apollo. Memorial Contributions may be made in Herbert’s name to the St. Jude’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude PL, Memphis TN 38105-9959.
