Betty J. Parks, 91, formerly of Parks Township passed away on Wednesday, July 11, 2018 in Good Samaritan Hospice, Cabot. Born on February 22, 1927 in Nanty Glo, PA she was a daughter of the late James F. and Albertha M. (Watson) Hastie. Betty graduated from Nanty Glo High School in 1948.

She was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Vandergrift; former Order of the Eastern Star in Vandergrift and currently a member of the OES #277 in Kittanning. She was an active OES member… Read More » having served on council and the board of directors for Rainbow Girls. Betty lived most of her life in Parks Township before moving to Cabot.

She had been employed as a sewing machine operator at Reibord Brother’s for 10 years and was the head baker at Kiski Area High School Cafeteria in the 1980’s. She enjoyed doing crafts, crocheting, playing cards, bingo and darts while living at Concordia. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, James I. Parks in 2001; brothers, Robert “Bob” Hastie and James “Jim” Hastie, a sister, Virginia Wysocki and a great granddaughter, Emily Olive Marie Tusing.

Survivors include her son, Don Parks of Mamont; daughter, Patty (David) Shields of Lower Burrell; grandchildren, Chrissy (Chris) Craft, Tom Shields, Jennifer Parks (Kris Lichtenberger) and Jim (Vicki) Parks, two great grandchildren, Brionna and James Parks and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be on Sunday, July 15, 2018 from 5:00-8:00 pm and on Monday, July 16, 2018 from 10:00am until the time of service at 10:30am in the Curran-Shaffer Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc. 100 Owens View Avenue, Apollo with Reverend Dr. Philip Ramstad officiating. Private burial in Riverview Cemetery, Apollo.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Betty’s memory to a charity of one’s choice.
