Andrew T. “Andy” “Koko” Kochanowski, 81, of Spring Church passed away on Thursday, July 5, 2018 in UPMC Passavant Hospital, McCandless PA. Born on October 31, 1936 in Avonmore, he was a son of the late John and Victoria (Macko) Kochanowski, Sr. Andy built his home in Spring Church in 1972 and lived there all of his life. He retired in 1993 from Alcoa where he had been employed as a research technologist for 26 years and was the recipient of a patent.

He was a 1956 graduate… Read More » of Bell-Avon High School and veteran of the US Army. His memberships included St. James Roman Catholic Church, golf league with Alcoa at Rolling Fields golf course and was a former member of the Knights of Columbus. Andy had a creative mind and loved tinkering and inventing things.

He most enjoyed spending time with his family, listening and dancing to polka music. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers, Joseph, Edward, William, Henry, John and Walter Kochanowski; sisters, Sophie Wirgonivczx and Helen Gynes. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Louise “Honey” (Samosky) Kochanowski of Spring Church; sons, Dr. Andrew (Sheri Kochanowski and Patrick (Cheryl) Kochanowski; daughter, Colleen (Tim) Ellison of Churchill; grandchildren, Hannah, Drew, Katelyn, Aidan, Rachel, Patrick, Nicholas, Caroline; brother, Albin Kochanowski of Saltsburg; sister, Virginia Gynes of Clarksburg and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, July 10, 2018 from 1-3 P.M. in the Curran-Shaffer Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 100 Owens View Avenue, Apollo. Mass of Christian burial will follow at 3:30 P.M. in St. James Roman Catholic Church with Father Vincent Zidek as celebrant. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Spring Church where military honors will be accorded by the Vandergrift Veteran’s Honor Guard.

Please do not send flowers, the family requests memorial contributions in Koko’s memory to St. James Roman Catholic Church, 109 Owens View Avenue, Apollo PA 15613.
