Andrew J. Kachonik, 85 of Loyalhanna Township, passed away on Saturday, July 7, 2018 in Hempfield Manor, Greensburg. Born November 19, 1932 in Clarence PA , he was a son of the late Andrew J. and Anna (Cingle) Kachonik. Andrew lived in Loyalhanna Township most of his life.

He served our country in the United States Army serving during the Korean War. Andrew was employed in the Melt Shop at Latrobe Steel Company for 32 years before retiring in 1987. Andrew enjoyed playing horseshoes and working in his garden, but he especially loved his family and taught them good work ethics. In addition to his parents, Andrew was preceded in death by his daughter, Mary Ann Kachonik, son, Steven Kachonik, grandson, Gerald Ohmer III, sisters; Mary Kachonik and Verna Stout and brothers; Edward and Joseph Kachonik. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen (Murphy) Kachonik of Loyalhanna Township, sons; Andrew J. Kachonik of Blairsville, Michael G. (Daniella) Kachonik of Naples, Italy, James J. (Noreen) Kachonik of Harrison City, Robert A. (Amy)Kachonik of Altoona, daughters; Nancy M. (Gerald) Ohmar and Mary Jane (James ) Kurant, both of New Alexandria, twelve grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

At Andrew’s request all services were private and entrusted to the care of the Curran Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 701 Salt Street, Saltsburg.
