Family and friends said Good Bye to a very fun loving, selfless, devoted, courageous and inspiring man who’s desire to continue to live his life to the fullest and to be The BEST “Poppy” EVER was lost after his long, hard fought battle to overcome his illness at home on Saturday, June 2, 2018. Allen Marshall Warner was a Loving husband to his “Pretty Lady”, Bonnie Lynne Strauss Warner of 44 years and a very Proud Father to his two daughters, Shannon Lynne Warner, currently living in Phoenix, Az and Angela Paige Warner Coe, married to Daniel Aaron Coe currently living in Clendenin, WV. He is survived by his four wonderful grandchildren, Lilah Jill, Ruby Jane, Forrest Jack and Michael Allen Coe, all from Clendenin, WV.
He is also survived by his sister, Dianne Warner Nixon, from Baltimore, MD, niece and family Leanne Marvelle Nixon Orlando from Baltimore, MD, sisters-in-laws and family Deborah Strauss Leister and husband Jeffery Leister of Hanover, PA, Terri Strauss Tuck and companion Mike Tuck of Bedford, VA, and Melissa Deane Strauss Matthews and husband Troy Matthews of Westminster, MD. He is also survived by and very proud of his niece Jennifer Leister Miller of Westminster, MD and nephew Tanner Ryan Matthews of Westminster, MD. He was predeceased by his parents, Harold Marshall and Marvelle Catherine Warner and Lynne’s parents Carroll Dean and Bonnie Hope Strauss.
Al will be remembered for his dedicated service to his country, serving four years in the Air Force, mostly at Elmondorf -Richardson AFB, Anchorage, Alaska. Advanced education as a Merchant Marine Engineer took him to faraway places like South Africa, Vietnam and was in Japan when Okanowa was returned. His experiences gave him a greater appreciation for being an American, living in the United States.
He was then employed with the Dept of Defense for the remainder of his career where he retired, working at Fort Detrick in Frederick MD for 32years. His fun job after retirement for many years was working with the elderly where he loved to listen to the clients tell of what it was like growing up in the early 1900’s. He was last employed by the West End Adult Senior Day Care Center in Westminster, MD.
His friends will remember him for his love of music, especially the 60’s music and his jovial sense of humor. He loved to both listen and sing along to the 60’s era music, playing it every chance he got, including while at the treatment center, encouraging “The Girls” to sing and dance along with it. He very much enjoyed both watching and playing the game of golf taking yearly trips in the spring to play the many courses in the South with his Golfing Buddies.
He recently stated to one of his buddies that it would not be long before most of them joined him in their quest to actually play the Augusta National Golf Course –known as God’s golf course, in which he will soon become a member and will have a tee time set when they arrived. Al also loved to travel and enjoy the outdoors and hoped to travel more when his wife, Lynne, retired in June. His enjoyment was traveling the East Coast including visiting Bar Harbor, Maine and cruising with his “Cruising Buddies” around the Caribbean Islands, but the BEACH , no matter where, was always his own kind of paradise to park his butt in the chair and dig his toes in the sand.
At those times his only worry in the world was whether the tide was gonna reach his chair! His regret is that he will not get to be a bigger part of his grandchildren’s lives or see them grow up here on earth but wants them to always remember he will never miss another important event in their lives because he will ALWAYS be walking right beside them, loving and encouraging them, every step of the way. A Celebration of Al’s life will be held at the Calvary United Methodist Church Social Hall in Gamber, the date will be announced.
Al’s request is that you dress casually. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the National Organization for Disorders of the Corpus Callosum, www. NODCC.org in honor of his grandson, Michael Allen Coe.
