Nick Johnson, Pastor of First Baptist Church, Snyder, Oklahoma, officiating. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Cemetery, Snyder, Oklahoma.
The family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Amy Arvilla McCarty, 96, Snyder passed away Friday, March 1, 2019. Amy was born February 9, 1923 near Stratford, Oklahoma to Robert Andy and Mattie Mae (Stephens) Underwood.
She married James V. McCarty, Jr. on August 30, 1946 in Altus, Oklahoma. James passed away July 19, 1977. Amy was a traditional woman with significant importance.
She played many roles throughout her life of which all were very impactful. She was a sister/mother to her siblings, being the eldest daughter of 11 children. She was a wife of 31 years on earth, yet 72 years in her heart.
A woman of traditions, family values, strong convictions, and a giving heart. She sacrificed for her family, as a sibling, wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a Christian and a long time member of the First Baptist Church, Snyder, Oklahoma.
Her interests were vast and widespread from being a Gospel singer in a quartet to an avid sports fan rooting on her OU Sooners, OK Thunder, and her Dallas Cowboys. She started cooking at a very young age and cooking became more than just a need. As she did with everything; she put love in it, especially her famous pecan pies, because they were the best.
She loved to play cards and games with family and friends alike. Gardening and fresh flowers were hobbies she really enjoyed. She was an excellent seamstress and quilter.
Basically, she could do just about anything and do it well. Overall the simple things in life were the most rewarding for her. Her strength in life and her love for family never wavered….
She Loved! Amy is survived by a daughter, Sandra McKinney and husband Bernie of Dallas, Texas, son Freddie McCarty of Snyder, four grandchildren, Kevin McKinney, Jennifer McKinney, Brandi Moeller, and Brandon McCarty, four great grandchildren, Bailee Moeller, Alexis McKinney, Justus Moeller, and Weston McCarty, one sister, Correna Allen of Roff, Oklahoma, one brother, Mike Underwood of Moore, Oklahoma and many other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Amy was preceded in death by her parents, husband, seven brothers and one sister.
