Burial will follow in Faxon, Cemetery, Faxon, Oklahoma. Mary Margaret Bain Matheson, age 67, died unexpectedly from injuries from a fall Sunday, May 19, 2019 in Lawton.

Mary was born October 20, 1951 in Lawton to Harned Everett and Peggy (Harris) Bain. She graduated as valedictorian of the Chattanooga senior class in 1969. Following high school Mary attended Cameron University earning a Bachelor’s degree and graduating in 1974.

She worked as a federal employee at Fort Sill and then embarked on a 37 year career with the United States Postal Service. She began her post office career working at the Lawton Post Office until she became postmaster at the Faxon post office in 1989 and held that position until her retirement on July 16, 2012. In recent years she worked as a substitute teacher at the Great Plains Technology Center.

She was also a cancer survivor. Mary was revered for her concern and compassion for the Faxon residents and community. Mary loved her family very much and cherished her time with her son and grandchildren.

She was a wonderfully devoted grandmother and Audree was the “apple of her eye”. Mary’s favorite pastime was taking her grandchildren to do their favorite activities. She enjoyed eating out with friends and visiting on the phone.

She especially loved her role as Grandma Mary. She will be missed by all her knew her. Mary is survived by her son, Michael John Matheson, from Mary’s marriage to George Matheson, and wife Aimee of Lawton, three grandchildren, Audree, Austin and Justin, two brothers, Donnie Bain and wife April of Lawton, Bobby Bain and wife Darla of Vernon, Texas, one sister, Vicki Riley of Yukon, her mother, Peggy Bain of Lawton and other nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous friends.
