Obituary for Ana Mercedes Vargas de Martinez Ana Mercedes Vargas de Martinez passed away on January 8, 2019 at St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital, Newburgh. She was 89 years old. Ana was born on March 18, 1929 in the Dominican Republic, the daughter of the late Juaquin Polanco and Antonia Vargas.

She had worked as a nurse in the Dominican Republic. She was a parishioner of St. Joachim – St. John the Evangelist Church and a member of the Ladies of the Sacred Heart. Ana is survived by her children, Maripily Sanchez and her husband, Johnny, Luis Reynaldo Martinez, Wascar Martinez, Javier Martinez, Jose Alberto and Anamarie Forchue; her numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Ana was predeceased by her eight brothers and sisters. Family and friends will gather on Friday, January 11 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Riverview Funeral Home by Halvey, 2 Beekman Street, Beacon. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, January 12 at 10 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church, 35 Willow Street, Beacon.
